Southern Miss Golden Eagles Head Coach Larry Fedora, assistants Blake Anderson and Todd Bradford, and Director of Football Operations Gary Camp are all former Middle Tennessee staff members. Golden Eagle QB Martevious Young has thrown for 13 touchdowns with only one interception after taking over mid-season for an injured QB Austin Davis. Other players like RB Damion Fletcher, RB Tory Harrison, WR DeAndre Brown and WR Gerald Baptiste will be the key for the Golden Eagles, they need to regroup with the QB and take their game to a whole new level. The strongest point on offense will be the run but this team is fast when they receive the ball so the double threat will be a great opportunity for them, they will need their running game tight, they have both running backs, Fletcher and Harrison combined for 1500 yards and 17 tds and that will be their tempo, they will run the ball as many times as possible and they will hold the game to their speed.

Mid Tennessee State Blue Raiders are one of the hottest teams for this bowl season. The nine wins are the most regular season victories since 1992 and the seven league wins are the most ever by the Blue Raiders as a member of the Sun Belt. Middle Tennessee enters the New Orleans Bowl riding a six-game winning streak which ranks as the sixth longest in the country. The Blue Raiders strongest weapon will be Junior QB Dwight Dasher. He will look to cap off a dominant year in which he threw for 2,627 yards with 21 touchdowns, as well as rushed for 953 yards and 11 touchdowns. Dasher will attempt to pass on a defense giving up 265 yards per game through the air. As a team, the Golden Eagles have only intercepted the opposing quarterback four times, so opportunities will be there for Dasher to take advantage. Other players like RB D.D. Kyles will have a tougher time against a great running defense but he will be helped by Dasher, he can throw it to WR Patrick Honeycutt or WR Chris McClover and try to control the game by air. The Blue Raiders biggest chance will be to use the air advantage to get ahead early and then sit on it until Southern Miss is out of ideas, but that could be a tough move.
