BYU Cougars are heading for the Las Vegas Bowl for the fifth straight year, this time to face Oregon State Beavers. The 14th-ranked Cougars will be playing the 18th-ranked Beavers in the first meeting of two ranked teams in the bowl game’s history. BYU with a record of 10-2 has gone 2-2 against Pac-10 opponents in the last four Las Vegas Bowls. The Beavers with a record of 8-4 were one win away from playing in the Rose Bowl, but lost to No.7 Oregon in the Civil War game last Thursday.

No.18 Oregon State Beavers lost the Civil war by 4 points and that led to this bowl against BYU. QB Sean Canfield finished the season with 21 tds and only 6 interceptions, his performance and his completion rate this year is 70% and that is the best of his entire career. Helping Canfield with the load of the game Oregon State will count with RB Jacquizz Rodgers with 20 tds by grown this season and WR James Rodgers with 9 tds by air. These three guys are the only solution the Beavers have against the powerful cougars. Oregon State only chance is to defend the running game and let BYU take the air, anything can happen when the pigskin is flying.

No.14 BYU Cougars junior RB Harvey Unga is looking into the possibility of getting into the 2010 NFL draft. This situation and the fact that his one year away from graduating has a lot of people concerned. If this is Unga’s last game as a Cougar I am sure he will run like he hasn’t done all season long and he will be giving this performance to his teammates and relatives. QB Max Hall, RB J.J. Di Luigi, TE Dennis Pitta and WR O’Neill Chambers will be the next alternative on the Cougar’s board, their biggest performance is always by air so Hall will have his hands full, the offense will take care of the Beavers’ defense and there is no question about that.

GAME ODDS

OREGON STATE -2½
BYU 60½

THIS WILL BE ANOTHER LAS VEGAS BOWL FOR BYU AND A CONSOLATION PRICE FOR OREGON STATE SO WHO HAS THE ADVANTAGE? IN MY OPINION BOTH TEAMS ARE READY TO PERFORM AT THEIR BEST, THEY WILL NEED TO PASS THE BALL A LOT MORE THAN USUAL AND THAT COULD BE THE BEST THING FOR EACHOTHER’S DEFENSIVE LINES. MY PICK WILL BE BYU COUGARS +2½.
