nfls2 2008 NFL Week 17: Betting Odds and Picks  I ended up going 5-11 into last week as Da Bears refused to cover 5 points which brings my yearly total to 118-110-8, which could make me the worst kind of tout as I am neither right nor wrong most of the time, but at least I am in the positive column for wins.  This is very disheartening, I mean I think Chimps throwing darts at team names could have picked better than me last week.  Below you will find all the spreads and picks for the final week 17 matchups of the NFL regular season.  All 16 games will be played on Sunday and there are a few big games that will determine the post season fate of a couple teams in the wildcard race.  Keep checking back as I will be updating throughout the week.

Sunday, December 28th

Kansas City Chiefs
Cincinnati Bengals   -3  37.5
My Pick:  The Bengals surprised the Browns last week in a drubbing that I can only call humiliating to the Cleveland faithful and now Ol Romeo is on the hot seat and may be looking for a job next season.   The Chiefs failed to cover last week, but they did show some promise.  This week I think they get another W.  Take the points.

St. Louis Rams
Atlanta Falcons  -14  44

My Pick:  My boy Matt Ryan has clinched a playoff spot in his rookie season and the future looks bright for the Falcons.  I think the spread may be a bit high as I don’t expect them to take any unneccessary risks before the playoffs, but even at half speed the Lambs are no match for them, besides it is in St Louis’ best interest to lose and get a better draft pick.  Give the points.

New England Patriots  -6  42.5
Buffalo Bills

My Pick:  Buffalo spoiled the Broncos slide into the playoffs last week with a come from behind win and now they will look to spoil it for the Pats who need a win and a couple key loss’ to move forward.  The Bills won too many games to get a great draft pick so they will go komikaze at home.  Take the points.

Detriot Lions
Green Bay Packers  -10  43
My Pick:  The Packer played well in Chicago and Rodgers looked solid, but it was too little too late and they blew it in overtime.  The real question is whether the Lion cubs will really go winless this year?  The last game of the year with broke down Culpepper at the Q and playing in the freezing tundra of Green Bay the answer is obviously yes they will tie the 76′ Bucs winless record and Rodgers, actually the entire team will be playing hard to keep their jobs for next season.  Give the points.

Tennesse Titans  -3  38.5
Indianapolis Colts

My Pick:  Indy clinched their wildcard birth and Tennessee has long sinced clinched homefield advantage.  The spread says that the Titans D is tougher than the Indy O wants to play.  I disagree, take the points, in a pointless game like this the home team always has the advantage espcially when neither team will be playing particularly hard to prove something.  Take the points.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Baltimore Ravens  -12  35.5

My Pick:  A Ravens win and some key losses and they may get in.  The way they beat up the Cowboys last week in the last 3 and a half minutes was awesome!  They will do it again at home this week against the less than impressive Jaguars who need a serious makeover in the offseason.  Give the points.

Chicago Bears
Houston Texans  -2.5  46.5
My Pick:  Despite the fact that the Bears are still in the hunt, it is the Texans that will shine this week as they will be playing at home and the Bears won’t have that freezing weather on their side.  When you look at how Rodgers picked them apart last week you gotta think that Andre Johnson will have a spectacular game against the Bears D who haven’t been the lynch pin as they usually are.  Give the points, Da Bears aren’t going anywhere this year and if they think signing Kyle Orton to a big contract is going to fix their problems then they have another thing coming.  The truth is that the Bears have not had a good QB since Jim McMahan.  Give the points.

Oakland Raiders
Tampa Bay Buccaneers  -13  39
My Pick:  Tampa got caught off guard against those scrubs from San Diego and now they need a win a couple losses to get into the post season.  They will hold nothing back this week, but neither will  the Raiders who are playing for fun and that perhaps makes them more dangerous.  The Bucs will win, but they won’t cover, they need to be conservative.  Take the points.  I have been right on the Raiders most of the season, why should it stop now…

Cleveland Browns
Pittsburgh Steelers  -10.5  32.5

My Pick:  Pitt is waaaaaaaaaaaay too tough for those scrubs from Cleveland.  Give the points.  Nuff said…

NY Giants
Minnesota Vikings -6.5  42
My Pick:  The Gigantes will be resting, the Viks have nothing to play for besides their jobs and pride.  Give the points.

Carolina Panthers  -3  52
New Orleans Saints

My Pick:  Carolina is in, but they need to keep their momentum going and the Aints are done anyways.  Give the points.

Dallas Cowboys
Philadelphia Eagles  -1.5  43
My Pick:  I’m having a flashback to a couple weeks ago when the Boys’ got pummeled by the one man show of Brian Westbrook.  I just rubbed my magic ball and saw the same vision.  Its a matter of pride for the Eagles and nothing feels better to any team than sticking it to Dallas.  Give the points.

Miami Dolphins
NY Jets  -3  42

My Pick:  Miami is in full playoff mode and they will not be slowing down int he Meadowlands this week.  Brett ol Boy blew it in Seattle in what should have been an easy win and bid for a playoff run.  The Dolphins are not what people think.  They are about 10 times better than that.  Take the points and watch one of the greatest 2 year turn arounds in the history of the NFL.

Seattle Seahawks
Arizona Cardinals  -5.5  45

My Pick:  The Cards have already clinched, but this game will more about AZ letting the Seahawks know who owns the NFC West now and for the forseable future.  AZ wins by a TD thus, they cover.  Give the points.

Washington Redskins
San Francisco 49′ers  -3  37
My Pick:  It looks more and more like Mike Singletary will be the head coach next year and rightfully so, plus who else wants that job???  Its over for the Skins at least this year and now rumors are that the Zorn supremacy is in danger of being replaced.  Say it isn’t so Daniel Schiender…  I think Jim Zorn pulls out all the stops and ends on a good note, plus he needs to secure his job for next year.  Take the Skins, take the points.

Sunday Night Football

Denver Broncos
San Diego Chargers  -9  50
My Pick:   This game got really interesting due to the blunder of the Denver Broncos losing at home last week to the lowly Bills of Buffalo.  All of a sudden the Chargers have a chance to steal the division right out from under them and take the last playoff spot in the AFC.  The Charger faithful are flying high because of a disgusting upset of the Bucs in Tampa and they all of a sudden have aspirations after most people had written them off for the year.  The Broncos had a hiccup at home where they were favored by 7, but in the 4th quarter they stopped playing and blew the lead as well as their chance to clinch the division.  Now Jay Cutler and co.  have got to strap up and head to sunny San Diego where they will need their defense to finish the game or get left behind.  There is no doubt that the Broncos can keep up offensively as they lead the Chargers in all of the offensive records categories so it again will come down to whose defense shows up.  The Chargers have been hit and miss lately when it comes down to stopping opposing QB’s.  If they give Cutler and inch you can bet he will take a mile with all the WR talent he has to work with against a shaky Charger secondary.  Also I’m sure that Norv Turner will try to make it a throwing contest between his in the closet lover Felipe Rivers and Jay Cutler thus ignoring their most prized player in LT.  I think the spread is grossly high and when you lok at the stats there is nothing convincing to justify the -9.  Take the points before the bookies come to their senses and bring it down.
