vt 2008 NCAA Week 11: Betting Odds and PicksI went 0-1-1 last week as a result of the Bulls getting smacked around by the Bearcats.  JEEZ!  If I didn’t have bad luck I would have no luck.  I would advise anyone reading this to take the opposite of my picks, lol.  This week we have #23 Maryland at Virginia Tech on Thursday night and then finishing up with Alabama at LSU on Saturday night.

(23)Maryland Terps at Virginia Tech Hookies
7:30 PM ET, November 6, 2008
Lane Stadium , Blacksburg , VA
Spread:

My Pick:  Maryland is a superior team this year, the passing attack led by QB Chris Turner has proven to be effective and allows the run game to develop and keep opposing defenses guessing.  Freshman Darren Evans has been the backbone of the Hookies offense and he really isn’t that good which puts alot of pressure on the QB’s Glennon and Taylor who have both struggled this year to get anything going in the air.  Their real strength is on defense and they will need all they can get against the potent Terps offense. The spread on this game has been delayed due to a pending injury report, however when you compare these teams on paper they are quite similar and the safer play would be the Hookies at home.  So regardless of the spread when it comes out I like VT at home, they will most likely be the underdogs anyways so you will be getting some points.  Take them.

(1) Alabama Crimson Tide at (16)LSU Tigers
3:30 PM ET, November 8, 2008
Tiger Stadium , Baton Rouge , LA
Spread:  Alabama -3

My Pick:  Alabama’s newly acquired #1 ranking shouldn’t be much of a surprise, they had all the pieces in place last year and this season they are clicking.  Senior QB John Wilson has really taken control and leading his team.  They could be a bit better in the air, but the ground game is complementing the overall offense very effectively.  For LSU they need RB Charles Scott to be on his game for them to have a chance to win.  The passing attack is a little sketchy and they really need the run game to be effective to allow QB Jarrett Lee to develop some rythem.  I actually think that LSU is the better team and Alabama may be a little over confident with the rankings.  So I think you go with the home team on this one, really its only a field goal and in the dome I expect them to get it done.  Take the points.
