nfl1 2008 NFL Week 7: Betting Odds and PicksThe bookies killed it last week!!! I mean damn!  I got caught on the wrong side of a couple games like the Giants debacle, but in the end I came out on top going 8 – 6.  Whichbookies 2008 NFL Week 7: Betting Odds and Picks brings my yearly total to 42-42-3.  I am not bragging don’t worry, but I am starting to turn things around.  Below are this weeks matchups with spreads and total.  I also have my picks for each game for which I consulted a ouiji board and ESPN. Keep checking back all week as I will be adding a pick for every game.

Teams on Bye Week:  Atlanta, Philadelphia, Arizona, Jacksonville

Sunday, October 19th

San Diego Chargers
Buffalo Bills PK  44.5

My Pick:  RIvers is coming off a 3 TD great game against NE, but don’t read into it too much because the Pat’s secondary is suspect anyway and LT had a good game if he was a rookie…So the Chargers didn’t really play great as much as the Pats played bad.  They are looking better and on the right track so I expect them to start winning again and finish over .500 this year.  The Bills are coming off a bye week and a hurt Trent Edwards so I’m not sure he iseven playing which puts the ball back in JP Losman’s hands which isn’t that scary, he’s ok.  Both teams will run, but not be very effective, its going to be another air show between both teams and fact is that the Chargers have more weapons all around at a PK you have to take the Chargers before it goes to -1.5.

Pittsburgh Steelers -9.5  35.5
Cincinnati Bengals

My Pick:  Palmer is still hurt so this Fiztpatrick guy is taking over, (If things weren’t bad enough in Cincy). You have no running game to speak of and and your defense is guilty of being inconsistent.  The Steelers are looking tough and Big Ben and Willie Parker are healthy, this means a looooong day for Cincy who is struggling.  I know that they Bengals won’t go winless, but this is not the game where they turn it around, the spread is a bit high for my liking since it is hovering around double digits to the home team which I don’t like to bet against, but its tough to judge, based on the low total this is going to be a running affair and the Bengals don’t have it, while Big Ben and company have the option to go to the air game.  I would buy it down to -9 for insurance and the push and take the Steelers, give the points.

Minnesota Vikings
Chicago Bears -3  38.5

My Pick:  Kyle Orton got robbed of a come back win last week because of a stupid mistake by the Chicago secondary.  Da Bears are pissed and Minnesota can’t stop the pass. The Bears can stop the rush from AP and force Ferrotte to throw.  Minnesota nearly lost to the Lions and only managed to put up 12 points, they don’t have the same optimism about them that they did in the beginning of the season.  Chicago is playing great on both sides of the ball and Orton doesn’t commit turnovers so the Bears at home -3 looks like a sweet deal and you should take it before it goes to -3.5.

Tennessee Titans -7  35.5
Kansas City Chiefs

My Pick:  KC is no kinds of good right now, LJ is sitting and Tony Gonzalez wants to get out the Chiefs jersey.  The Titans are looking tough and it is their overall play on both sides of the ball that has opponents taking notice.  Tennessee is on fire right now and KC is going to get lit up.  Take the Titans.

New Orleans Saints
Carolina Panthers -3  44.5

My Pick:  Jake Delhomme and co. is reeling after last weeks performance in Tampa and the Saints D is not that bad, so the Panthers need to figure it out, the offense is dependent on the run game to help develop the pass and if you shut down the run you kill the pass as well.  Plus I don’t think Carolina is that bad rather that Tampa is that good.  Drew Brees is as productive as ever and Reggie Bush playing the spot roll is paying dividends, they will have some issues with the Carolina D, but at home I think they get it together and cover the spread, also New Orleans is due for a loss.

San Francisco 49′ers
NY Giants -10.5  46

My Pick:  FEAR THE GIGANTES!!!  They didn’t show it, but the Giants are pissed right now, they blew it against a second tier team in Cleveland and now they are going to take out their frustrations on the 49′ers and its going to be ugly.  10.5 seems like a lot of points, but consider that the San Fran O line gives up alot of sacks and their secondary is suspect at best against Eli and co.  I think they put the hurt on them andrun up the score just to make a statement.  Give the points.

Baltimore Ravens
Miami Dolphins -3  36.5

My Pick:  Miami is actually good…well compared to last season, but the point is that the defense is playing great and Ronnie Brownie is the all around playmaker that is required for a wildcat offense.  Baltimore’s run game has been exposed and stopped and the rumor is that Willis McGahee is not the same RB he was and McClaine has butter fingers and can’t hold on to the ball.  Miami is looking too sweet right now and don’t expect the train too stop against the Ravens.  Give the points.

Dallas Cowboys -6.5  43.5
St. Louis Rams

My Pick:  The Rams will win straight up!  Take the points and consider buying up the half point to 7.

Detriot Lions
Houston Texans  -8.5  47
My Pick:  Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub have been taking care of each other and the Houston D even looks like they know what they are doing out there.  Detroit is STILL no good at all and they suffer again this week to remain winless.  It just seems like 8.5 is too much, but i think 10 would be too much so give the 8.5 points.

Indianapolis Colts -1  47
Green Bay Packers

My Pick:  Indy isn’t that good and this is the last week Ryan Grant has to do something or he will be finding the waiver wire come Tuesday (at least on my team he will).  Green Bay needs to settle the discussion on their defense and how it has been questionable as of late so putting the stop on Peyton would definitely help their argument.  The Colts run game has been suppressed lately and that continues this week.  Take the Pack give the Points.

NY Jets -3  44.5
Oakland Raiders

My Pick:  Run DMC is finally healthy, but he is going up against the Jets #4 rush defense.  The Jets will no doubt look to pass against a feable Raiders secondary and score big from it, forcing JaMarcus Russel to step up in the pocket.  I have had a couple discussions on this game and for some reason it feels like an upset, but 3 points is not enough, you have to take the Jets and trust that they are fresh and Brett ol boy has everything under control.

Cleveland Browns
Washington Redskins -7  42

My Pick: Just because the Skins suffered a rude awakening last week does not mean I am jumping off the band wagon.  The Skins will bounce back today and I am starting Santana Moss so they have to make it happen today.  Skins will cover, give the points

Sunday Night Football

Seattle Seahawks
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -10.5 39
My Pick:  The Bucs came out last week and did exactly what I thought they would do, the defense won the game and it was the Panthers that had to be the whipping boy for it to happen.  Seattle showed promise in the first half of the game with Charlie Frye at the Q, but all hope quickly fizzled in the second half and they ended up getting trounced.  It looks like Jeff Garcia will be the QB again this week in Tampa, but that shouldn’t worry you, he is a veteran that knows how to win in this league and the fact that 80 year old Warrick Dunn still has some life in him as he showed against a very stingy Carolina run D should be all the more ensuring of a Bucs win this week, the defense is no doubt on hit and they will keep the pressure on Seattle all day long.  Hasselbeck has disc problems in his back which are punching nerves in his spine that are weakening his knee, this is not a problem that just goes away so I would not be surprised if Frye or Seneca Wallace gets the start this week so you know the Tampa D is just licking their chops for some fresh meat.  Julius Jones was less than fantastic last week at home and he will not be having any fun in Tampa this week, they still only have an aging Bobby Engram to throw to and the guy throwing will not be that good anyways.  All of these factors point to a complete routing by the Bucs.  Take Tampa, give the points, its going to be a looooong day for the Seahawks.

Monday Night Football October 20th

Denver Broncos
New England Patriots -3  46.5

My Pick:  The Pats got whipped like a rented mule last week in San Diego and its not because the Chargers are that good, but that they played that bad.  The Pats secondary just got slapped around by bigger, stronger, faster WR’s and could not get enough pressure on Rivers.  Denver took a bad loss at home to a resurging Jags D that didn’t give them time to blink.  Add that to Denver’s inability to stop MJD and it spells upset.  This week looks to be a repeat nightmare for the Pats against a pass heavy Broncos offense led by Jay Cutler.  New England will no douby counter by running against the flimsy Broncos D line and mix it up with short passes to Welker on the flat where it should be cleared out once Moss makes his move. Although I really like Denver in this to upset the Pats who in my opinion are on a downward trend, however I think NE studies the game film and finds a way to frustrate Cutler and cause some turnovers.  The air attack will force Cassel to throw, but I think at home they will comfortable enough with the idea.  Take the Pats give the points.
