By now it is obvious that you should be picking the opposite of whatever college picks I make and only judge me from my NFL picks where I am over .500.  This week I plan to change things around with a pick on the Thursday night game between ACC rivals Clemson and Wake Forest and the Saturday night thriller featuring titans from the SEC, LSU and Florida.

Clemson Tigers at (21)Wake Forest Demon Deacons
7:30 PM ET, October 9, 2008
BB&T Field, Winston-Salem , NC
Spread: Wake Forest -2.5

My Pick:  Both teams were favorites to win their conference, but its the Demon Deacons who have managed to keep a top 25 ranking, while the Tigers have fallen apart in the opinions of many.  They both have winning records and both have legitimate shots at still winning the ACC.  When you look at the stats, Clemson is a better team on paper, but may not be living up to their potential and Wake has just a hard nose style about them that does just enough to win, but will not make sports center for huge plays.  This is a tought pick because the Tigers like to run ALOT! and Wake is more conservative and steady, at under a field goal for the spread then Wake at home looks like the pick, but if your an optimist like myself then you have to believe that Clemson’s preseason ranking of #9 was for a good reason and they have some talent.  Both teams are fresh coming off bye’s and I think that the Tigers make believers out of everyone this week and upset Wake in their own house.  Take the points.

(4)LSU Tigers at (11)Florida Gators
8:00 PM ET, October 11, 2008
Florida Field , Gainesville , FL
Spread:  Florida -4
Being Broadcast on CBS

My Pick:  It seems like every year the SEC has the toughest teams, or for at least the last 4 years anyways and these are among the best teams in the nation.  Florida’s Tim Tebow is having a Heisman year again with 8 TD’s and only 1 INT and a whopping 1025 yards in the air.  LSU’s Jarrett Lee isn’t have quite the same year, but when you have RB Charles Scott to take the pressure off you its ok to relax and just make sure you don’t turn the ball over.  LSU has the more respectable run game which is a stark contrast to Florida’s air attack and both teams have great defense’s so this makes for a tough pick.  Here is what you have to consider, if Florida  gets up early going to the pass they should have a comfortable lead of around 10 points at any one time, while LSU will be slow and steady on the ground, they may be able to get in a pass here or there, but I think they stick with a slow and steady approach and try to control the clock.  If Florida is up by 10 in the 4th quarter the Tigers will be forced to go to the air and we may see some field goals here and there.  So I am comfortable with the -4 spread and I think the Gators pull it off and win by at least 6.  Take the Gators, give the points.
