Again I went 2-0 last week as WVU pounded Auburn and AZ got beat but didn’t take a beat down against USC. That brings me to 4-0 in the last 2 weeks so lets keep it going with this weeks picks. First on Thursday night we have (23)South Florida at Cincinnati and on Saturday we have Airforce at Army.
Thursday Night
(23)South Florida Bulls at Cincinnati Bearcats
7:30 PM ET, October 30, 2008
Nippert Stadium , Cincinnati , OH
Spread: South Florida -3
My Pick: The Bulls have had a few bumps along the way, but they have managed to stay in the top 25 and most of this is due to the great play of junior QB Matt Grothe and his 1800 yds passing with 14 TD’s and only 5 INT’s. Grothe is not only doing it in the air, but on the ground as well where he has nearly 300 yds and 3 TD’s. He maintains a balance with his receivers and they are able to spread out opposing defenses with a fluid mix of ground and air attack. At 5-2 you would think that Cincinnati is playing some great offense, but really they are not that good. Pike hasn’t broke 1000 yards passing yet and they are more and more becoming pegged to the running game led by Jacob Ramsey who is averaging 5 ypc. The Bulls defense can stop the run so they will force Pike to throw which is not good news for the Bearcats. Despite the home field advantage I think the Bearcats are in for a long day, they haven’t really played anyone in their division that is the caliber of the Bulls and they don’t have an answer for them on defense. Give the points.
Saturday
Airforce Falcons at Army Black Knights
12:00 PM ET, November 1, 2008
Michie Stadium , West Point , NY
Spread: Air Force -10
My Pick: Despite the fact that Army won last week it was still an unimpressive win over a Louisiana Tech team that is worse than bad. The Black Knights have no passing game to speak of and are totally dependent on Senior RB Collin Mooney. The defense is not much to fear as they regualrly get beat in the air. Air Force is not looking like much of a threat and are most likely under a false sense of security seeing as they really haven’t played anyone this year and when you look at their season long stats you have to wonder just how bad their opponents were that the Falcons are 6-2. On paper it looks like Airforce should make quick work of the Black Knights, but I thik the -10 is waaaay too much and pretty much forces you to take the Black Knights at home where they are coming off a win. Take the points
