Georgia Tech has won the past three games in the series, but it’s a valid argument to say that this Miami team is not the same team they’ve faced the last three years. Let’s check some stats to see who has the advantage on this game …

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are one of the nation’s best rushing teams, ranking 8th in that category and Jonathan Dwyer, the Jackets’ super-talented sophomore, is the ACC rushing leader with over 1,000 yards rushing on the season. The second place rusher in the ACC only has 795 yards, that is far from ther very best I might say. Coach Paul Johnson is also focusing on the team’s defensive game as well, they are not bad at all and they are better at it than Miami controlling the passing game to a minimum, the Hurricanes will have to run for it and that might be one of the keys for success for the Yellow Jackets. The first two weeks of football Georgia Tech managed to beat Jacksonville State (37-17) and Clemson (30-27), they have scored 30 points or more and they have proven their ground offense tobe a powerful tool, they might need a little help by air but they look very good on paper.

Miami Hurricanes are a tough and quick defensive team, and boasts the 19th best rushing defense in the nation and is 10th in the nation in total defense. That is impressive since this team usually has to rebuilds from zero every two or three years when their players go pro before the graduate. Miami also currently has a more efficient scoring offense (43rd nationally) than Georgia Tech (T-78th nationally), and the Hurricanes are extremely effective in the red zone, where they have scored on 36 of their 38 trips. Now to have scored so easily against 2 teams before this game it is really impressive, they are not scared to receive the yellow jackets at home, they are actually eager to defeat them. Miami has only played one game against their rivals Florida State and they scored 38 points so both teams are similar when it comes to scoring so the defense will be the road that leads to victory for the ‘Canes, they need to stop the Tech’s ground offense and they are set.
