carnoustie 2007 British Open Odds/Predictions

The 2007 British Open will be held at Carnoustie GC on July 19th – 22nd.

The last time the Open Championship was played at Carnoustie was 1999, when Scotland’s Paul Lawrie became the unlikely champion, overcoming a 10-shot deficit on the final day and then defeating Justin Leonard and Jean Van de Velde in a playoff. That year, Woods finished in a tie for seventh.

This year Tiger is YET AGAIN the favorite at +225(risk $100 to win $225), Tiger will be shooting for his 3rd title in a row at the Open at Carnoustie where he has the chance to become the first player since Peter Thomson (1954-56) to win three Open Championships in succession.

Some other notables to watch this week include but not limited to: Phil Mickelson +1000(risk $100 to win $1000), this line provides excellent value especially when you consider that Phil tied for 1st in the Scottish Open last week only to suffer a bitter loss in a playoff at the end. Zach Johnson is another player who offers resonable value at +700(risk $100 to win $700) I really think Johnson is an up and comer and after his win at the Masters this year he probably built quite a trophy case and the Claret Jug would fit real nice along side his Masters jacket.  My dark horse pick is Adam Scott +2800(risk $100 to win $2800) I know, I know, I always pick Adam Scott as my dark horse, but thats because he is due to win a major, in fact he is waaaaaaaaay over due and at +2800 I see no reason not to throw $50 on him.  This years U.S. Open winner Angel Cabrera, is currently listed at +3200(risk $100 to win $3200).  This line obviously shows huge disrespect to a recent major winner add to the fact that Cabrera has been around hes no stranger to the majors and hes definatly no stranger to the U.K. golf courses.  This is another line that should be considered for value, $20 – $30 on Cabrera could win nearly $1k, I hope Cabrera has bet on himself and goes out there and just whips these guys around to show the bookmakers the errors in their ways.

Gamblers Palace is also pleased to offer golf props for the tournament, currently you can bet on who will be the top player from: U.S., Australia, U.K., Europe, and The Rest of the World. As well as who will/won’t make the cut, and a hole in one, yes +155 no -195.

The course itself will probably be the winner this week as I expect scores to be much higher at Carnasty than compared to the resonably managable Old Course at St. Andrews.
