Its that time of year again, spring is here, the flowers are bloomin, the weather is nice and the ponys are running.  Yes it is time for the Kentucky Derby.  The derby is a special event that converts non racing enthusiasts into full fledged fans if only for one day. 

On the day of the Derby there will be a ceremony honoring Barbaro whose fatal injury was suffered last year at the Belmont Stakes where a faulty open at the gate caused him to trip and break his leg.  He held on for months afterwards as his owners tried desperatly to keep him alive at all cost, but finally he succumbed. 

Some early thoughts on the contenders this year:  If they won at Gulfstream Park then I think they should be part of your Trifecta.  Cowtown Cat is a serious contender who made a statement in February at Gulfstream and has maintained his popularity, NoBiz Like ShoBiz is probably one of the your locks to place in a Superfecta as well as the Tri, hes already beaten the outright favorite Curlin back in February at Gulfstream.  Then you have to consider Scat Daddy and Street Sense who are very much contenders to win it all.  If I was going to bet early and get some value from a line I would look at Cowtown Cat and Zanjero whose lines have a ton of value at the moment, but expect them to come down as we get closer to the race.  I wouldn’t waste my money on the favorite this year there are way too many wildcards out there. The odds are up, get them while theres value.
