nfc 2009 NFC Divisional Playoffs: Betting Odds and PicksThis week we have the NFC Divisional playoffs starting on Saturday with the Cardinals at Carolina where they are a huge underdog and then on Sunday with the Eagles traveling to New York to take on the Football Giants. I managed to go 2-2 last week as the Cardinals just edged out the Falcons and Philly whipped the Vikings in their own house.  Below are the spreads and picks for this weeks divisional playoffs.  Keep checking back every week as I will have a pick for every NFL playoffs game…

Saturday, January 10th, 8:15pm EST

Arizona Cardinals
Carolina Panthers  -10  48

My Pick:  The Cards didn’t do anything exceptionally well last week against the Falcons, they just went out and did what they had to do to get the W, but they will have to find something special to use against the Panthers if they want to continue on in the playoffs.  It was the usual pass, pass, run, pass routine for the Cards, but against the stingy Panther Run D they could be forced to just.  I think Tim Hightower will have to make his presence known immediately to get something going or they will pound on him all day making Warner take most of the pressure.  As long as everyone is healthy then the Panthers will have to respect the pass, but then again I think thats all they will have anyways.  The Panthers and their running game continues to surprise everyone and we all want to know when this Deangelo Williams train is going to stop.  I think he has like 4 TD’s in 3 different games.  This guy is unstoppable or he is juiced out of his mind…Delhomme should be solid with Smith and Muhammod in the slots and the O line has been playing very well so he should not feel to much pressure from the Cardinal D.  The spread seems lkind of high, but as the Cards continue to play shaky football the rested Panthers just look too strong.  Give the points.

Sunday, January 11th, 1:00pm EST

Philadelphia Eagles
New York Giants  -4  41

My Pick:  Philly played their hearts out in Minnesota last week and yet again it was the chosen one, Brian Westbrook that hit the nail in the coffin to close it out with a 70 yard pass in the 4th quarter that all but sealed the deal for the Eagles.  McNabb didn’t play horrible, but he didn’t play well, it was their defense that should get most of the credit for the W last week as they held Adrian Peterson to only 83 yards on the ground and forced a turnover and a 3 and out when it mattered most.  They will need to bring that same intensity on D this week against the fabled earth, wind and fire elements of the Giants running game.  Everyone is healthy and despite a meaningless loss in week 17 to the Viks they are rested and ready to defend their Superbowl title.  The first time these 2 teams met in the beginning of November it was a tight game in which the Gigantes just pulled off the W 36-31, you can bet both teams are studying that game tape.  The Giants will do the same thing they have done all year, pound it on the ground, throw on short yardage situations and let Jacobs batter it in from yards out.  Their defense is still on hit and should give McScrubb all he can handle on Sunday which should lead to at least a couple turnovers and you can bet NY DB Sam Madison is licking his lips in anticipation.  Both teams are pretty evenly matched on offense, and coming into last week I would have said that the Giants had the better D, but after watching Philly last week I think they have really stepped up at the end of the season and could be more of a nuasense then NY wants to acknowledge.  I am going to go out on a limb and take the points in this one.  I’m pretty sure that the Giants will win, but it is going to be close, and I mean REAL close.  Take points, before it comes down.
