College Basketball Betting – Terrible Matchup For Gonzaga Bulldogs Against West Virginia Mountaineers
Written by North Shore Sports, Inc.
Thursday’s college basketball betting schedule is stacked with great tourney games, and Bookmaker Sportsbook is set to offer all of your wagering options in this March Madness second round clash between the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
One of the top games on the slate on Thursday, March 15th features the West Virginia Mountaineers (19-13, 15-14 ATS) and the Gonzaga Bulldogs (25-6, 13-16-1 ATS). The duel from the Consol Energy Arena in Pittsburgh, PA tips off at 7:20 ET on TNT.
College Basketball Betting Lines
West Virginia Mountaineers (PK) -110
Gonzaga Bulldogs (PK) -110
Gonzaga is a team that won 25 games this year, but if you take a bit of a closer look at those wins, you’ll see that making your college basketball betting predictions on it could be dangerous. The Zags have some talent to work with, but a 1-2 record against the St. Mary’s Gaels and a 2-1 mark against the BYU Cougars doesn’t do it for us, especially knowing that the next best victories on the slate came against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish before they were good and the Xavier Musketeers while seemingly all of their team was suspended.
Don’t get us wrong; this is a team with a lot of talent on it. Elias Harris and Robert Sacre are great big men, and Kevin Pangos and Gary Bell Jr. have emerged as solid contributors in the backcourt. All four players are averaging at least 10.0 points per game.
However, when you look at West Virginia’s resume, though the actual record isn’t as impressive, the quality of victories and the talent level definitely are.
The Mountaineers have wins over the Cincinnati Bearcats, Georgetown Hoyas, Miami Hurricanes, Kansas State Wildcats, and Akron Zips this year, and they really don’t have a lot of suspect losses to teams like the San Francisco Dons like Gonzaga does.
Beating the college basketball betting odds for the Mountaineers comes down to the play of Kevin Jones and Darryl Bryant.
Jones is going to be a force for both Harris and Sacre to deal with. He has emerged as one of the top scorers in the whole country at 20.1 points per game, and he is also a great rebounder at 11.1 boards per game. Bryant won’t stop shooting until he gets his points, and at 17.2 points per game, we have confidence that he can carry this team to wins on the college basketball betting spreads any given night.
College Basketball Betting Pick – Poor Gonzaga. Not only are the Zags just 2-7 ATS in their last nine tourney games, but they are going against a West Virginia team that is 13-4-1 ATS in its last 18 in the dance. Plus, they have to fly all the way to Pittsburgh, where the Mountaineers are sure to have a huge home court advantage, and in the end, they probably aren’t the better team. This one just screams for West Virginia to absolutely blow the Bulldogs away.
