Playing close to home may be all the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (8-4, 8-4 ATS) will need to get by what looks like an overvalued Iowa State Cyclones (6-6, 7-5 ATS) team on the CFB lines in the Pinstripe Bowl from world famous Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, NY on Friday, December 30th at 3:20 ET in a game televised on ESPN.
Iowa State will be forever known as the only team that solved Oklahoma State during the regular season to knock the Cowboys out of the BCS National Championship Game, but the Cyclones really did very little else besides that against the CFB lines.
Rutgers has one of the better defenses in the country allowing only 18.8 points per game, which has become the staple of a Greg Schiano coached team, and the Scarlet Knights should be able to shut down a very pedestrian Iowa State offense; especially by Big 12 standards.
Current Line at Bookmaker: Rutgers (-2) -110, Total 45
Rutgers ended the season on a downer, losing 40-22 at Connecticut, but the Knights are happy to be playing in a bowl game again after having their streak of five straight bowl appearances on the CFB lines snapped while going an uncharacteristic 4-8 a year ago, and playing in a Bowl game in New York is just an added bonus.
We will just chalk up those 40 points allowed in the season finale as an anomaly, as Rutgers finished 12th in the country in total defense in 2011 permitting just 311.5 total yards per game. The Knights surrendered just 3.9 yards per rush and an excellent 6.4 yards per pass attempt. Yes, the Big East was weak, but Iowa State does not have a typical Big 12 offense, so we feel those numbers will hold up here.
Rutgers did have problems scoring a lot of points, mainly because the running game was pathetic, averaging only 91.5 rushing yards on an anemic 2.6 yards per carry. That was offset by having a wide receiver like Mohamed Sanu though, as he set a Big East Conference record with 109 receptions, resulting in 1144 receiving yards and seven touchdown receptions.
Also, the running game has a chance to improve here vs. a Cyclones’ run defense that allows a horrific 194.8 rushing yards per game on a high 4.6 yards per carry.
Now, there is a reason that Iowa Stare was a 26½-point home underdog to Oklahoma State on the CFB lines, as the Cyclones only average 23.5 points and 392.8 yards per game. Iowa State then lost its final two games to finish at 6-6, as quarterback Jared Barnett, who had the game of his life vs. the Cowboys, returned to his mediocre self.
Barnett wound up completing a poor 50.7 percent of his passes and averaging only 5.5 yards per pass attempt, so do not look for improvement vs. the stout Rutgers pass defense as the Knights cruise to victory in the Bronx.
CFB Lines Prediction: Take the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (-2)

College Football Online – ‘Cuse and Wildcats Go Bowling in the Bronx
Written by North Shore Sports, Inc.
College football online betting fans are heading into the bowl season this week! Are you ready to bet on the clash between the Kansas State Wildcats and Syracuse Orange? Don’t miss a moment of the action, at Bookmaker Sportsbook, as we are the outlet for you!
NCAAF Betting Online: Enjoy mobile betting with college football online for this great encounter on Thursday, December 30th at 3:20 ET from New Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, NY between the Kansas State Wildcats and the Syracuse Orange. The New Era Pinstripe Bowl can be seen nationally on ESPN and ESPN3.com.
This is the first edition of the Pinstripe Bowl and marks the first time that a bowl game will be held at New Yankees Stadium, something that college football online viewers will realize is a sight to see. It’s also a great sight to see the Orange as a relevant team again. The ‘Cuse challenged for the Big East crown for about half the season this year, and though the team ultimately didn’t have the horses to get the job done, it did win seven games in a year that that was the number to get to in order to go bowling.
College football online bettors know that it wasn’t always pretty for the Orange this year, but they always did what they had to do. The offense, in spite of the fact that it played against two teams from the FCS this year, only ranked No. 106 in the land at 309.4 yards per game. However, the defense really picked up the slack allowing an average of just 270.0 yards per game, the second best mark in the Big East and good enough for the No. 5 mark in the nation.
Head Coach Bill Snyder is really going to have a tough time in this one, as he really destroyed the chemistry of his team when he benched Carson Coffman in favor of Collin Klein at quarterback. Granted, Klein is a tremendous rusher and is certainly more fleet of foot than Coffman, but there has to be some threat of a passing game in there somewhere to scare teams, something that college football online wagering fans know well.
Even though Daniel Thomas rushed for 1,495 yards and 16 TDs this year, he’s not going to be able to do this by himself, especially if the defense plays as poorly as it did for most of this year. This unit allowed 431.8 yards per game and gave up at least 38 in each of its final three games of the season.
The New Era Pinstripe Bowl college football online betting odds feature the Orange getting the nod by one point. The ‘total’ has been set at 48. This is a game that seems to be designed for the ‘Cuse. They get to play at home and are taking on a team that really doesn’t look like one that is beating anyone, any time soon. Lay the point and bank on the Orange ‘D’ getting the job done in the Bronx.
